| Prefold Diapers |
| Prefold Diapers are rectangular squares of fabric that have additional layers in the center panel. They are called Prefolds because you must fold them onto your baby and secure with a fastener (pins or a Snappi) or fold them into a diaper cover. Prefolds are the most inexpensive way to diaper your baby, but don't worry... they work great! Yes, it takes a little extra effort to learn how to put on a prefold diaper but once you're good at it, it really doesn't take much more time or effort. If you start with a newborn, after a week or two you'll be a pro, even when your baby is older and squirmier! There are important differences between types of prefold diapers. The cheapest route (aside from making your own from scrap fabrics) is to use cotton prefolds. We do not recommend using the cheap prefolds sold by big box stores for diapering! These make great burp cloths, but are not absorbent enough for everyday diapering. You'll get frustrated by leaks and blowouts quickly. We are excited to offer Play All Day Organic Hemp Prefold Diapers. Why hemp? It's luxuriously soft and generally twice as absorbent as cotton, as well as being a renewable earth-friendly fiber. While cotton and microfiber spread wetness throughout the fabric, the fibers in hemp hold onto wetness. So, when your baby wets a hemp diaper, only the area directly in contact with the pee-pee gets wet and the rest of the diaper stays dry. Play All Day products are made by a Colorado Mom. We love the look of the natural ecru color of the hemp and the earth-toned stitching. Many people purchase Chinese or Indian Diaper Service Quality (DSQ) prefold diapers. This is what most diaper services use, they are adequately absorbent, and they hold up through many hundreds of washings. We now offer the OsoCosy Indian Unbleached DSQ diaper. We carry the Infant 4x8x4 sized for babies 7-15 lbs. These 100% cotton twill weave unbleached cotton prefolds quilt up nice and thick, are soft, very absorbent and lint free. Because they are unbleached they have a natural ivory cotton color to them. As with all prefolds, these will shrink 5-10%. They take several washes to become fully absorbent |
